About South African Institute for Heritage Science and Conservation (SAINST)

The South African Institute for Heritage Science and Conservation (SAINST) was founded in 1994 and is based in the Eastern Cape. Restoring historic buildings is part of the charm of the campus and these are continuously well-kept. It is one of the leading suppliers of conservation materials, tools and equipment in South Africa. Finding new discoveries is always encouraging to new and current students.

Students are continuously solving puzzles and fixing objects using their scientific minds. These are ideal candidates for the institution.  The setting is ideal due to its historical background and a diverse range of resources. The campus is isolated and rural but provides a focused setting for students to truly immerse themselves in their courses. Students are always using analytical techniques when excavating new and exciting sites.

Staff are always encouraging students to spend time cultivating the food gardens to remain self-sustaining.  The values of SAINST include the joy of discovery, creative invention, passionate inquiry as well as the seeking of wisdom. The staff is passionate about encouraging conservation and heritage science in everything they do.
